2014 Spring Sevens Tournaments
Once again the Spring Sevens Tournaments are being held at Bob Deans Oval.
The sevens season kicked off with the Secondary Schools Spring series two weeks ago on Friday 17th October will culminate in the Condor qualifying series being held on the 7th November. The two boy’s finalists and the girl’s winner on the 7th November will then get to contest the Condor finals in Auckland. The tournaments are played in the late afternoon / evening.
St Thomas of Canterbury College and the Lincoln High School girl’s teams will be out to defend the titles they won last year.
The Club Sevens started on Saturday 18th October with two more tournaments on the 1st November and the 8th November. Each tournament will have prizes and there will also be overall winner from the points carried over from all the tournaments. The Sumner Wave team is the defending champion and could be the team to watch out for having already won the first tournament.
This year 16 teams will compete in the men’s grade and hopefully up to eight in the women’s grade now that the provincial championship for them has finished.
With more emphasis being put on seven’s and both Jason Tiatia (Canterbury Men’s coach) and Dallas Seymour (Canterbury Women’s coach) being in attendance and offering advice there will be plenty of opportunities for players to gain higher honours.
Come down to North Hagley Park and take in the atmosphere that seven’s rugby produces. With great rugby, food, and music it should be a great day out for the family.
