PGG Wrightson Country - Division 1 Competitions Update

29 Jul 2009

DanCThe crowd that packed into Denton Oval on Saturday was one for the record books... The stadium was filled with a staggering crowd, estimated over 3000, to watch the PGG Wrightson Division 1 clash between Hornby and Southbridge... Which saw Dan Carter debut for the Southbridge Division 1 side.

Carter, who injured his Achilles playing for his French Club side Perpignan, was given the all clear to play after training successfully with the Canterbury Air New Zealand Cup Squad last week. He scored the final try in the match, in which Southbridge won 34 -13.

This weekend is semi final weekend for both the Ellesmere and North Canterbury Sub Union’s competitive grades. The Ellesmere Division 1 competition sees top round robin qualifiers Lincoln at home to Southbridge, while the Coleman Shield defending champions Waihora take on Darfield at Darfield, both matches at 2.45pm.
In North Canterbury, PGG Wrigtson Combined Competition Champions Glenmark, take on Saracens, on home turf at Omihi, and Oxford play Kaiapoi, on Oxford Oval. Both games are also 2.45pm kick-offs.
