Durable Lowe Hits 200

3 Jun 2011

Matt LoweLincoln veteran Matt Lowe had more to smile about than just a hat-trick of tries against Prebbleton on Saturday.

The No.8 played his 200th senior game for the club, becoming just the fourth man to do so.

He celebrated the milestone, in his 11th season, with three tries from close range and a much-needed 34-7 victory.

Matt said after the game he hadn’t kept tabs on the record books, but was told about the mark five weeks ago.

“It just crept up on me really. To be honest, I didn’t really know how many games I was on at the start of season,” he said.

Matt, who has played for Ellesmere, Canterbury Country, Canterbury B and Mid Canterbury, also beat long-time team mate Jason Pietzner to the double ton by a matter of weeks.

“We’ve played together right through the grades and it’s good to have the two of us pretty close together.”

He struggled to remember his first game in 2000, apart from that it was against Collegiate.

“It’s been quite a few years and there’s been times the old retirement card has been put back in the pocket, but as long as you’re still loving the game, and you can still get up in the morning, you just keep going.”
