Rugby Programme a Winner with Kids

2 Jul 2009

ChchkidsprogrammeThe Christchurch Football Club in association with Westminster Sports Inc recently staged its first ever rugby holiday programme.

Based at the clubs grounds at Christchurch Park 29 kids took part in daily (9am – 3pm) rugby based skill sessions modified games and activities as directed by the Christchurch Football Club Rugby Development Manager Mike O’Donovan and his coaches - Hadleigh Parkes, Matt Thatcher, Sam Monaghan, Will Hurst and Jason Merrett.

Westminster Sports Chief Executive Eddie Cropley said “From our perspective the programme was very successful, we had good numbers participate with both and girls involved across age brackets (6-12 years old) and introduced rugby to kids who had not played the game before”

Cropley added “Importantly the kids enjoyed themselves and thanks to the Mike and his coaches learnt new skills and were keen to return and participate in future programmes. It was also well received by the parents and observers from rugby circles”.

All participants received some sponsors products and rugby promotional items as well as being presented with certificates on the final day by former All Black captain Tane Norton.

The July programme is scheduled to run from Monday 6 – Friday 10th.
